What personally identifiable information is collected on the AIDS Chicago website?

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC), which administers the AIDS Chicago website, respects the right of privacy of those who visit the  website. We do not collect personally identifying information about individual users except when specifically and knowingly provided by those users. This means that you can visit our site without telling us who you are or revealing any personally identifiable information about yourself. When a visitor becomes a member and supplies personal information during the registration process (name and/or email address), that information will only be made publicly available to others if so designated by that user.

Personally identifiable information is stored on servers that are not publicly accessible. This information is only accessed by the webmaster on a "need to know" basis.

What anonymous information is collected on this site?

Anonymous clickstream information is collected from every visitor to this site. This includes pages viewed, date and time, and browser type. IP numbers are used to determine domain type and in some cases, geographic region.

How is this information used?

AFC will not disclose information about individual users to third parties except to comply with applicable laws or valid legal processes. We do not rent, sell, or trade users' information with third parties, however we do reserve the right to retain users' information for evaluation purposes, ie to determine the popularity and effectiveness of the website.

Does this site use cookies?

AFC uses remote data structures ("cookies") and monitor users' Internet protocol (IP) addresses to operate the interactive sections of this website (those that require member registration and sign-in). Cookies contain anonymous information only and are never used to retrieve any information about your identity. AFC uses these functions exclusively for identification and internal evaluative purposes, and does not share any information thereby collected with third parties.


The website contains links to external sites with their own data collection and privacy policies. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another site. The website is not intended for use of unsupervised children under the age of 13. AFC does not solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13. All postings on the AIDS Chicago message board, and job/volunteer board are created and submitted by individual members, not by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) itself. The opinions expressed in the postings are those of the individual members and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of AFC. Furthermore, any information contained in the postings is provided by individual members, and is not checked or verified by AFC. AFC is not responsible for the proliferation of false information via postings in the event calendar, message board, or job/volunteer board. Please use special care in evaluating comments concerning medical matters, treatments, safe sex practices, etc. posted by individual members. Medical information found on the message board is not verified by AFC and should not be regarded in any way as a substitute for medical advice from a qualified physician or qualified health provider. AFC is also not responsible for the unauthorized posting of copyrighted materials.

While posted content is not regularly reviewed, AFC does reserve the right to move, edit, or delete any posting that it deems inappropriate or inconsistent with the terms of use. Additionally, AFC reserves the right, at its discretion, to remove any member who posts inappropriate or offensive content. This may include off-topic discussions, pornographic postings, advertisements, spamming, etc.

AFC cannot verify the validity of information provided through registered member accounts. Members are responsible for maintaining the security of their passwords and preventing unauthorized access to their accounts.

If there are any changes to AFC's privacy policy, or use and collection practices of personal information on the website, those changes will be posted on this page.
