Everyone has a story, this is mine.
14 years ago, almost to the day, I moved to Chicago. Shortly after, my father came to visit. He saw me on my own, going to school, working and making friends—a sight that was met with relief and pride. At the end of the day, his mood shifted. He was slightly emotional when he told me to protect myself and always be safe.
He then shared with me his best friend of many years, Jeff, had passed away from complications with HIV in 1991. I never met Jeff, but learning about him that day, I knew this person meant so much to my father.
In that moment, I thought of the thousands—millions of people who have lost someone to HIV/AIDS.
Today, people living with HIV are thriving, living. The AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the 30 Chicago-area HIV organizations participating in AIDS Run & Walk Chicago support those living with and vulnerable to HIV and AIDS. I am raising money so people like Jeff can live longer, healthier lives.
By donating to AFC and AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, you’re helping the estimated 27,000 people in Chicagoland currently living with HIV. You are helping them spend more time with loved ones and create more memories together, to meet their friend’s children.
Shoutout to all the donors, because you are all oh so beautiful--
