Welcome to my fundraising page!
I know I do not have to tell you why it is integral to continue with our momentum forward in the fight against HIV & AIDS. I work as the Director of Culinary Arts at Center on Halsted for many reasons, but most importantly, I believe in community and advancing equality for all.
Individuals who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) face different challenges, struggles, and even day-to-day routines from their peers. Center on Halsted is a place that specifically caters to these needs by providing programming and services for LGBTQ individuals and allies, throughout the lifespan.
In my work, I train the next generation of culinary professionals as they embark upon the foodservice industry for the first time, or reenter the workforce after some significant setbacks. The impact of our work in the Culinary Department is significant!
HIV and AIDS disproportionately affects the LGBTQ community. The impact in the community is very broad, from older adults living with HIV/AIDS to younger individuals who are in need of safer sex education and linkage to new and revolutionary medication that help prevent the spread of the disease. Center on Halsted is both a regional and national leader in providing comprehensive services, from free testing and outreach, to safer sex education, and linkage to care. All funds raised by Team Center on Halsted will support these services.
I am participating in the AIDS Run & Walk because in my lifetime, I have known many colleagues, students and friends who are at-risk or are living with HIV/AIDS. I am walking to support the community!
No amount is too small to make an impact. Just $15 covers the cost of one rapid HIV test kit. $200 covers the cost for one testing session, including pre- and post-counseling and linkage to care by a trained Health Educator. Over 4,000 people receive an HIV test at Center on Halsted annually, so you can see the reach of our agency in issues facing the LGBTQ community.
