Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE)
The Chicago Center for HIV Elimination (CCHE) is excited to join the 2017 AIDS Run/Walk as a Community Direct Partner for the second year in row! CCHE provides a number of resources and support for people living with HIV and AIDS as well as for those who are highly vulnerable to HIV. Some of what we offer includes: People Organizing Progress (POP), an LGBTQA youth drop in space; resource counseling; HIV and STI testing and counseling; PrEP and ART retention case management; PrEPLine, a warm line that provides information and can assist in scheduling appointments for people seeking PrEP as an option for HIV prevention; and a number of other research and service programs designed for the LGBTQ population on the south side of Chicago.
Our team leader and inspiration this year is Dr. Jean-Luc Benoit. Dr. Benoit is the longest standing HIV provider on the South Side of Chicago with 25 years of direct HIV care on the South Side of Chicago and has logged over 25,000 HIV client encounters. Dr. Benoit's journey started when he moved to the United States in the summer of 1988 and started his Infectious Diseases Fellowship in July of 1992. He founded the University of Chicago ACGME-accredited Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program in 2004 and has been the fellowship program director since. Dr. Benoit has a major interest in improving the care of patients with HIV / AIDS. He is interested in studying the attitudes of patients and adherence to antiretroviral therapy. He teaches the course “Topics in HIV” to enhance medical students’ awareness and knowledge of HIV / AIDS. He educates students and residents in the early diagnosis and management of this infection, vital to CCHE's goal of ending HIV by 2041. Thank you Dr. Benoit for serving as a constant support for the south side of Chicago and your dedication to the field!
